Sourcing in Brazil: Recommendations
Buying from Brazilian suplliers

Brazil realizes that its economic future depends on exports.  The country is no longer a "raw materials only" exporter - currently manufactured goods are becoming a larger part of the Brazilian export portfolio.  Productivity gains, legislation incentives and currency exchange are factors that make Brazilian goods more competitive.

Many are outsourcing from suppliers in Brazil.  The advantages?  A highly developed industrial base amid a familiar, western way of doing business.

Tips
  • To determine feasibility of outsourcing from Brazil, request quotes for which you already have comparative cost information from other suppliers.
  • Due diligence is a must.
  • Never rely on a single source of information.
  • Do not assume that if it's in the contract the Brazilian supplier understands it.
  • Make sure that all parties are very clear regarding prices, payments, delivery deadlines, product specifications and the like.
  • Inspect product in Brazil before shipping.
  • Help the supplier understand EXACTLY HOW you determine what is acceptable.
  • Require short-interval monitoring
  • Make sure you request for a Background Check before carrying on negotiations with Brazilian companies
